CRUELTY was long-listed for a Bafta in 2015/2016.
The film was funded by the BFI following Anna’s selection onto the iShorts development programme as a writer-director. CRUELTY was subsequently selected for the best of iShorts showcase and had its festival premiere at the Encounters International Film Festival in September 2015. In 2017 it was long listed for a BAFTA.
CRUELTY is a film about love and loneliness and the frailty of human relationships. Alice and Jude are desperate to connect but their physical intimacy proves to be an illusion when they are confronted with a disturbing decision.
The film's cinematography emphasises their alienation and creates associations with the thriller genre, questioning how close to the surface our violent impulses are concealed.
